ONLINE: Bare Basics Of The Haemogram And Peripheral Blood Smear

Venue: Online, via Zoom
The complete blood count (CBC) with differential count is one of the most common laboratory tests performed today. It gives information about the production of all blood cells and identies the patient’s oxygen-carrying capacity through the evaluation of red blood cell (RBC) indices, haemoglobin, and haematocrit. It also provides information about the immune system through the evaluation of the white blood cell (WBC) count with differential count. This test is helpful in diagnosing anaemia, certain cancers and infection. An enhanced understanding of this laboratory test is essential to providing quality care.
This CPD will focus on CBC, haemogram and peripheral blood smear in the evaluation of common haematological disorders.
Objectives
- Learn to interpret reported values on a CBC report.
- Enhance the knowledge and skills needed to interpret the haemogram.
- Learn to recognise common morphologic abnormalities on a peripheral blood smear (PBS).
