NUTRITION CARE PROCESS MASTERCLASS: Advancing Clinical Case Management & Critical Thinking in Medical Nutrition Therapy

The primary objective of this workshop is to elevate participants’ knowledge and proficiency in effectively implementing the Nutrition Care Process and Terminologies (NCPT). Throughout the workshop, participants will engage in interactive sessions designed to deepen their understanding of NCPT principles and application.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in utilising NCPT through dietetics clinical case discussions. The workshop also aims to foster a collaborative learning environment, encouraging participants to share insights, best practices, and strategies for optimising the integration of NCPT into their professional practices.

Objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Apply critical thinking in the application of the NCP (nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, monitoring and evaluation).
  • Evaluate quality of PES statements.
  • Evaluate clinical documentation using ADIME format from the NCP framework.

Prof Winnie Chee Siew Swee

Prof Winnie Chee has more than 30 years’ experience in dietetics education and training. She was in the International Nutrition Care Process Committee by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, USA in 2010 and one of the pioneers in development and implementation of NCP in Malaysia. She was also a member of the ICDA Commission for Dietitian-Nutritionist Education and Accreditation (I-CDEA, 2019). Prof Chee currently serves in the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council and was President of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (2014-2023). She is passionate about uplifting the dietetics profession competency and promoting evidence-based practice; and is involved in research related to dietetics practices and training.

Jamilah Abd Jamil

Jamilah’s research focus is in the area of dietetics practice enhancement. Her main goal is to support the practice through cutting-edge research in the relevant area. Since her career started as an academician 13 years ago, her research has been mainly on Nutrition Care Process (NCP), a standardised process for the delivery of nutrition care, and recognition of the dietetics profession as part of the multidisciplinary care. She has been involved with the training of NCP for the dietitians in Malaysia, as well as taking the lead in coordinating NCP for Dietetics Practice module for the dietetics programme at International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia. She hopes that with her research, quality of nutrition care can be further improved for better patient outcomes and better recognition of the profession.

Dr Kanimolli Arasu

Dr Kanimolli Arasu
Senior Lecturer, IMU University

Kanimolli Arasu graduated with her BSc (Hons) Dietetics from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)and later obtained MSc Health Sciences (Nutrition) in the same university. She completed her PhD in the area of bone health in pre pubertal children. She has a decade of experience as head of dietitians in a leading private hospital in Kuala Lumpur. She helped develop dietetics services in another two private hospitals. She is currently a senior lecturer at IMU. She has over 20 years’ experience as a dietitian and actively communicates regarding healthy nutrition to the public via various media and prints. Her interests include paediatric nutrition, bone health and healthy eating
