ONLINE: Making Sense of ECG

Venue: Online via Zoom
The Department of Physiology, International Medical University (IMU), will be hosting its maiden workshop, as a multidisciplinary platform for professionals, scholars, paraprofessionals, and students to discuss and stay abreast in fundamental aspects of ECG.
An electrocardiogram is a simple, painless test that measures the heart’s electrical activity. Every heartbeat is triggered by an electrical signal that travels to the myocardial cells. Heart problems often affect the electrical activity of heart reflecting a change in electrical potentials which can be picked up in an ECG.
ECG is considered a main diagnostic tool. Its interpretation is helpful in establishing the diagnosis of cardiac and even respiratory conditions. The purpose of ECG workshop is to prepare students and house officers in initial stages of careers to gain confidence in the diagnosis of cardiac diseases through the interpretation of ECG.
A certificate of participation is awarded to all participants.
Objectives
- Understand comprehensively the conduction system of the heart.
- Understand the basic ECG waves, complexes, and deflections and derived measurements.
- Develop a systematic approach to interpret ECG at an advanced beginner’s level.
- Recognise familiar patterns and interpret ECGs encountered in common clinical situations including medical emergencies.
