The main objective of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of the ethics and regulations that govern the use of animals in research.
Objectives
- Understand the principles of ethics, biosafety and potential human health hazards associated with contact with laboratory animals (including allergy, injury, infection, zoonosis) and how these can be prevented
- Describe suitable practices for the maintenance, care and welfare of rodents used in research
- Describe the various procedures on rodents for research and pre-clinical trials
- Acquire practical skills on laboratory procedures in handling rodents via hands-on sessions
- Apply the various procedures learnt into scientific research
