The aim of the course is to build an understanding of the need of data science, data management and data engineering in the healthcare sector.

This micro-credential module introduces data science, data management and data engineering, and it focuses on the fundamentals of data collection and preparation, which is part of data engineering, in a healthcare environment.

Learners are expected to have interest in exploring new digital health knowledge.
Fundamental knowledge of data science is optional as this module serves as the fundamental course to introduce the basics of health data collection and preparation.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to

  3. Demonstrate the concepts of data collection and preparation in a healthcare environment.

  • Introduction to data engineering, data exploration and data sourcing
  • Data transformation and cleaningIn the first three topics, an historical perspective and review on data science, data management and data engineering main principles are introduced. In the last part, data extraction, data cleaning, data integration and data transformation methods are being reviewed. The scope of data preparation as well as methods for improving, enriching and formatting data are introduced.

  • Learners who are interested in Master in Health Informatics and Analytics but are yet to commit to the full Master programme.
