Dental Photography – Snap A Smile (1 Credit Hour)

Modern digital cameras can capture great detail, but one has to learn how to use them properly in the dental field to achieve an optimum quality photograph. The learners will learn a standard, coordinated approach to capture the best possible photographs with a digital camera in this course. Technical aspects of modern digital cameras will be explained in detail that helps understand how one can create clinically and scientifically relevant images. Moreover, the learners can learn the basic tools, settings, and equipment required for dental photography.

Through practical examples, the learners can master to capture scientifically correct and useful extra-oral, intra-oral and desktop images for treatment planning, patient education, evaluation of treatment results, documentation, and marketing. A dedicated module targeted towards post-processing thoroughly explains basic image editing, cataloging, transferring and storing the captured images, and producing journal standard images. Such high-quality, scientifically acceptable photographs are best used for marketing purposes that can significantly improve the practitioner’s documentation and boost his / her dental practice.

      • Dr Nafij Bin Jamayet
        Senior Lecturer and Maxillofacial Prosthodontist, School of Dentistry, International Medical University
        Dr Nafij Bin Jamayet was graduated from Bangladesh Dental college under University of Dhaka in year 2008. After completion of his BDS degree he completed his clinical specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics from Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand in year 2013. Dr Nafij Jamayet was served as a Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthodontist and Senior lecturer at Prosthodontic Unit, School of Dental Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kota Bharu, from 2013 to 2020. He is currently serving as a faculty at the School of Dentistry, International Medical University, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Beside the regular prosthodontic work, he regularly performs subspecialty work such as obturators, eye, nasal, ear, and facial prosthesis Ha has graduated with several Master's by research student in the field of Maxillofacial Prosthetics. He was the principal investigator of multiple internal university and external agency grants. He has more than 50 International publications at International peer-reviewed journal.

        Dr Sobia Bilal is currently associated with the School of Dentistry at International Medical University, Malaysia. She is the Lead for Quit Smoking Clinic. She has a Masters degree in Dental Public Health from University of London and a PhD from University of Malaya. Her areas of interest include tobacco control, health-related quality of life, evaluation of oral health interventions among disadvantaged groups, questionnaire validation, cross-cultural adaptation of research tools, qualitative research and mixed methods. She also received a certified training for tobacco cessation counseling and practice for health care professionals under the Malaysian Ministry of Health and The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). She has designed dental curriculum to incorporate tobacco cessation counseling and practice to fulfill the minimal clinical competence of dental undergraduates. She took an initiative to setup a smoking cessation specialist clinic at International Medical University under the recognition of mQuit (Ministry of Health, Malaysia). She leads on Dental School Community Engagement domain to address the health needs of socially deprived communities. She also leads the Population-based Research Cluster at School of Dentistry. She is an active member of Qualitative Research Association of Malaysia (QRAM).

        Dr Umer Daood is currently working as a Senior Lecturer, Clinical Dentistry Division, School of Dentistry, International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur. He is Adjunct Faculty Asst. Professor Prince Philip Dent Hospital, HKU at The University of Hong Kong. He is also a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College Surgeons (MFDS, RCS Glasgow) and a Certified Periodontist from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolich, London.
