Research and scholarship is fundamental to professionalisation of teaching in healthcare professions education. It helps individual teachers to adopt an evidence-based practice in their day-to-day educational activities such as facilitation of learning, assessment of students, development and evaluation of curricula, and quality assurance of programmes. Research and scholarship is also an essential requirement for professional development and career progression of teachers. The higher education institutions will be benefitted by having a dynamic community of scholarly teachers who will readily respond to the needs and changes in the field of health professions education.

The workshop intends to introduce the principles of research as applied to health professions education with hands-on activities and to help participants to develop their own proposals with expert feedback from Prof Cees van der Vleuten.
