The Basic Life Support (BLS) training is designed to equip healthcare professionals and non-healthcare personnel with the knowledge and skills to recognise several life-threatening emergencies, provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Besides that, participants will also get a chance to learn to relieve choking and perform first aid assistance to a victim in a safe and effective manner. The BLS training are conducted by experienced and certified trainers.

This short course will be conducted with theory and practical components, which are:

Theoretical components consist of discussions, sharing experience, presentations on topics:

  1. Basic life support skills and knowledge, reflecting the new science from the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
  2. Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
  3. The American Heart Association Chain of Survival

Practical components, where participants will be divided into small groups for:

  1. Use of manikin and simulated patient
  2. Introduction to Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  3. Demonstration given by facilitators and return demo by participants. Participants will be given enough time to practise with guidance for:
    – Rescuer CPR for adult, child and infant
    – Rescuer CPR for adult, child and infant
    – Relief of choking for adult and infant

Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • enhance their knowledge on the importance of immediate response during life threatening emergencies
  • identify the need to activate the Emergency Response Team / ambulance
  • perform the adult, child and infant CPR correctly and effectively
  • perform choking relieve to adult, child and infant correctly and effectively

Target Audience

Healthcare workers, caretakers, educators in schools or nursery, corporate and industrial workers, safety and security personnel. This course is recommended for participants who has no prior knowledge on emergency response.
