Good mentoring is found to be discipline agnostic. The same principles apply when mentoring a medical resident or a marketing manager.

This course will introduce the fundamental principles of peer mentoring, which primarily involves mentors and mentees at the same level (Faculty-Faculty, Student-Student). The topics discussed will go over some critical concepts to keep in mind throughout the peer mentoring process. We will discuss emotional intelligence and communication skills in relation to peer mentoring. Three different types of mentoring, which include academic, research, and pastoral mentoring, will be discussed. Finding a near-ideal mentor can be difcult, so participants will be provided with some hands-on exercises to assist them in their search. Virtual mentoring is a critical skill for a mentor to possess in these unique times. This programme will provide virtual mentoring tips to participants. Finally, some fundamental principles will be discussed to assist in establishing peer mentoring programmes in the workplace.

In summary, the workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of peer mentoring, with an emphasis on workplace mentoring.
